Teach Art At Home Like an Artist!
We are often asked if See the Light curriculum qualifies for a high school fine arts credit, and we’re happy to say, “Yes!” Read on for information about how to implement a half or full-credit plan in your homeschool high school.
See The Light’s Art Class & Art Projects are a great option for the family that wants a high-‐quality program that meets (and exceeds) the National Visual Arts Standards.
According to the HSLDA (Homeschool Legal Defense Association), to be considered one full credit, there needs to be 120 hours or more of instruction. A half credit would be 60 hours, and applies to most electives, including art.
Art Class & Art Projects can help you achieve the 60 hours of instruction needed to qualify for a half-credit fine-arts elective (i.e. Visual Arts). Simply combine the video lessons with additional practice time and one additional project, and you can meet the necessary hour requirements.
You’ll find the plan below, but we’ve also provided it for you as a downloadable PDF.

You can qualify for a full credit, by adding trips to art museums/galleries and ancillary projects to bring your total to 120 hours.
For example, once the student learns a technique (e.g. tissue paper collage technique from Poppy Collage, watercolor technique from Peaceful Seas, Pointillism from Seurat lesson, etc.) they can can use that same technique for additional projects on their own. Also, research papers and PowerPoint presentations about each artist in our series are good supplemental activities for a full high school credit.
Whether you keep your own transcripts, file a private school affidavit as a single family for tracking grades, or you are part of a PSP (Private School Satellite Program) or co-op that tracks your transcript for you, be sure to indicate that STL Art Class and Art Projects are your art curriculum of choice.
Below you’ll find a list of the 18 volumes of Art Class and Art Projects, the approximate viewing time for each, and the amount of additional practice or project time you need to add to bring your total up to 60 hours.
